Russia’s Tele2 launches LTE-450 nets in Tver, Novgorod regions
TVER, May 27 (PRIME) -- Russian mobile operator T2 RTK Holding, working under the Tele2 brand, has unrolled LTE networks within the 450 megahertz (MHz) band in the Tver and Novgorod regions, in the European part of the country, to provide small and remote towns with the Internet, the company’s CEO Sergei Emdin said Friday.
The networks will function under the name of Skylink, which Tele2 obtained along with other assets from state-controlled Rostelecom when they formed their joint venture, T2 RTK Holding.
The key advantage of LTE-450 is its carpet-like coverage and high-speed of connection. “The main upside is a great range of signal remittance, which makes possible to engage large territories with economic efficiency and reach those subscribers who used to be abandoned by operators due to economic reasons,” Emdin said.
The project stipulates only the mobile Internet so far, but voice services on LTE-450 networks or Wi-Fi will appear by September.
Tele2 also plans to start providing services to corporate and state clients, first of all law-enforcement bodies.
Investments in the project were not disclosed. The initiative raised high interest among suppliers of equipment, and they offered good discounts, Emdin said.
